Subject: Cork in a Bottle Trick - Contribution to a Good Cause
To: My Friends

Dear Michael & Loan,

My sincere apology for taking so long to write this note to you. I have not forgotten my promise to share with you my secret "cork in a bottle" trick, which I performed at our house over the summer. My goal is to raise as much money as possible for several charities in Vietnam. Our family has been contributing to some of these charities, and we strongly endorse Vietnamese Charitable Association – Hội Tình Thương Việt Nam - founded by a priest and a small group of young people, including our dear friends in California -- for its wonderful work to help lessen the suffering of the poor people in Vietnam. When we traveled to the country last August, we visited some of these places, and witnessed the good work that Association has done for those people. The volunteers who run this organization pay their own ways once every 12-18 months to go to Vietnam and visit these charity organizations. There are volunteers in Viet Nam who also help these people. ALL of your contributions will go directly to the poor people in Vietnam and there are no administrative costs to process the contributions. All of the organizations below do not receive any support from the governments and operate by private donations only.

Please help send this note to anyone you know who may want to contribute to Vietnamese Charitable Associaton. After you make your contribution, please notify me with an email, then I will in turn send you instruction on how to perform the "Secret of the Cork in a Bottle". I do NOT need to know the amount or details of your contribution. I only ask that you do not share this trick with anyone except those that you know who have given money to a charity, any charity! The charity organization does NOT have to be Vietnamese Charitable Association, although I recommend it.

Vietnamese Charitable Association – Hội Tình Thương Việt Nam

There are several projects sponsored by the Vietnamese Charitable Association that you can select to send your contributions. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt in the mail, and will also get correspondences/and or receipt from the charity in Vietnam for your contributions. Only the heads of the organizations have your address for correspondences. The gift recipients only know you by name. You may request not to receive any correspondence from Vietnam.

1) Loving School – Trường Tình Thương - $60/year to sponsor a poor student

A Catholic nun -- Sister Cẩm Thuỷ and Sister Hồng Trang run this program, which has over 500 children from the poorest families in Nha Be Province, South Vietnam. It costs $60/year or more to sponsor a poor student. This money will help to pay for the teachers' salary and supplies for the students, who are from very poor families, and many are raised by a single, elderly relative.

About 1/3 of the kids coming from the poorest families in the school also receive a meal before they go home every day. The student(s) will correspond by letters (and photos) through the school or Sister Cẩm Thuỷ and Sister Hồng Trang) once a year.

2) Three orphanages for the handicapped children – $5,000/year to each orphange Vietnamese Charitable Association would like to send $5,000 a year for each of these orphanages. This will help to pay for the supplies for vocational training for these orphans. You will receive information about the orphanage that gets your contribution.

3) Building Homes for Homeless Families at Đồng Nai Province - $500 per Home

Sister Isabelle Kim Hường is the manager of this project for homeless people in Tri An, most of them living on small saipans over a dirty, polluted river. The Association help Sister Isabelle to purchase about 3-5 acres of land and would like to build 24 homes for 24 poorest families. Each small, two-room house costs $500 to build. It has 4 brick walls, a roof, a wooden plywood divider to separate the house into two "rooms". Your $500 will give a HOME to a family.

4) Medical Clinics – Trạm Xá Tình Thương - for the poor The Association plans to give $500 each year to buy medicine and supplies for each clinic. These clinics provide free medical care to poor people who are infected with HIV or cancer. The Volunteers such as doctors, nurses, and staff will not be able to perform their service without our help.

5) Bình Tân Day Care Center - $5 for food or $100 for 1 year tuition for a child

Sister Hồng Trang and The Servant of God's Convent are in charge of this Center. This is a poor neighborhood of laborers, pedicab drivers, servants, etc. The convent is running a simple "day care center" to help looking after the children of the families in this area.

The Association ask for a gift of $5 to help one family to buy some food for a week or a $100 gift would provide one year tuition for child.

These funds would also help feed the child during the day. Without this fund, some 150 children would be left alone at their houses during the day while their parents or guardians are working as day laborers.

A $15,000 gift would help build a small daycare center for 3-6 years old children. This center will be operated by the nuns from The Servants of God's Convent. Any gift will fund the purchase of supplies such as pillows, book cases, or refrigerator for the center. Currently the "Center" is a simple hut with very few amenities.

6) Retirement Home for the Elderly Priests

More than 50 priests are living in this Home. They have no relatives and many are gravely ill.

7) HIV Center for HIV victims who have no medical coverage very little means for subsistence

Please indicate which project(s) you would like to sponsor and provide your address, so that the organization can send you receipts for your contributions (for tax claim). Your personal information is confidential and will be kept only in the files of the Association in California.
